Most people think that working from home is all sweet and fun. Yes, of course working at home is much better than having to work in an office and bound to the office rules, but that doesn't mean that all I do is relax and play.
Working at home or from home means that you're your own boss. That's a good thing, except that you're also your own boss for everything else. Every day, my routine includes getting all the chores done, get some breakfast or lunch (depending on the time I wake up) and then go online. Then, I'll start checking and replying my emails. Work starts straight away.
Depending on my schedule for the day, my typical workday includes writing articles, updating my blogs and doing research. I am earning from my celebrity blog, so it's important for me to read a lot on entertainment news. It is fun, but try writing about a different celebrity every day, even though you don't really fancy them!
If I have orders on my craft store, I'll process them straight away and then wait for payments. Once I receive payments from my customers, I'll start packing their orders. Then, I'll check my store database and decide if I need to order new stocks. If I have new stocks coming in, I'll be extra busy. I will have to upload product pics, key in product info and their prices. Sometimes I will have promotions, which means extra work since I have to update the prices and set the discount rates.
Then, I will also check all the online programs that I've joined, just in case they have paid posts for me to write. Some of the jobs will be emailed to me, so I will have to write them as soon as I can, since there's always a due date for every paid post jobs. For the paid ads that I have on my blogs, I will have to check every day that they are not expired. If the ad campaign has expired, I will have to remove the codes from my blogs.
Sometimes I will have to meet up with customers, friends and sometimes C will be at home, and these will affect my routine. I will have to adjust my schedule for the day. Of course, it's easy but when the laziness hits, it's really difficult. I do not believe in forcing myself if I don't feel like it, but I know I will have to push myself, since I don't have bosses to push me around. I also have crafts to do. I struggle to find time for my crafting, but I know I must make time for it, since I need to update my craft blog.
Working from home isn't all fun. Yes, I do enjoy my freedom and I would never give it up for anything in the world, but it takes a lot of discipline and I have to manage my time well. Therefore, if you think that my blogger friends and I are just wasting our time blogging and loitering online, think again. We work really hard for the money that we earn online. We have a life outside of the blogosphere and we do have our own ways when it comes to having fun.
If you think that your day job sucks and ours is better, you might want to gear up before jumping into the work-at-home bandwagon because if you cannot deal with your day job, I doubt that you'll find blogging fulfilling.
