Food Friday #12 - Air Batu Campur (ABC)

I just love ais kacang or air batu campur (ABC) on a hot day. Heck, I'll have it even on rainy days, if I can!

Air batu, if directly translated to English, means "stone water", while campur means mixed. Kacang is a Malay word for bean, and ais means ice.

ABC used to be made of ice shavings, red beans and sugar syrup. Nowadays, you can find varieties of ABC, which contain nata de coco or coconut jelly, lychee, sweet corn, grass jelly, cendol and so forth. Gula melaka syrup is usually used as sweetener, along with evaporated milk.

The one in the pic is an ABC special with vanilla ice cream topping. Just like halo-halo in The Philippines, air batu campur is a popular dessert in Malaysia. Enjoy!

  18. oooohhh i love cendol with santan tooo!! it actually depends on my mood..
    usually i prefer cendol because it's not so sweet. with abc, you've got the
    ice cream and what not.. so it can be sickly sweet.. but best jugak to have
    during the heatwave. Last time there's this uncle who jual cendol near
    masjid at taman tun!! Ooohhh delightful!!!!! :) RM1 only per bowl.

  19. Oh RM1 per bowl, so cheap! There's one at Petaling Street, sells
    pasembor too. Alamak, now craving for 'em foodies! :P
    I love regular ABC with red beans, sweet corn, those green lengkong
    thingy and some bits of black cincau, with evaporated milk and rose
    syrup. Yummy enough for me hehehe...don't fancy ABC special hehe...

  20. aiyoooo talking about foodies.. J went to work. cannot bring me search for
    foodies!! LOL! now you mention pasembor, I also want!! hahahaha. true true..
    regular ABC will still hit the spot!! One thing I like about going back to
    KK, my mom's friends always do potluck, and always someone will sedia
    ingredients for the DIY ABC. I like mine with lots of green lengkong thingy,
    red beans, sweet corn and a bit of kacang tumbuk, with syrup and evaporated
    milk! Aiyooooo.. drooool drooool drooooool!!!

  22. same here. lunch pun ayam kikap. :( i haven't gone grocery shopping yet. the
    only thing i'm looking forward to is watching taking pelham 123 after i
    finish with my PBs. Yay!! :) But no momom to snack on while watching.

    yesterday, he interrupted me and I forgot about it lol! And he went

    what i was doing.. i sd i ws abt to watch it and he sd wait for him!! eeee..
    now i think i'm gonna watch a walk to remember lah. Lucky for me, carrefour
    is located downstairs. Just gotta take a lift down. But sooooo lazy!! LMAO!!
