This morning, as I was looking for some answers to my question, "Name some plants or trees that begin with the letter T in Salako", I came across this old article on The Star newspaper online about our age-old tradition called 'Narakng'. Coincidentally, I read a post on the same topic on Salako Bato's blog earlier.
Well, in case you're wondering Salako is my race, which is one of the many races in Sarawak. I've recently joined our own online community, and I must say I'm enjoying myself, meeting new people and new found relatives there, so far.
I was born in Lundu but was raised in Kuching. As a result, I am unfortunate that I have never experienced or seen the 'narakng' tradition before. Of course, I wish that I'll have the chance to experience it myself at least once, but only God knows when that will happen.
I am no expert when it comes to our Salako culture, but as a person who enjoys reading and learning new things, I'm thankful that I still have reliable sources of information. For those who are interested to read the article, I've posted the article here (in forms of images) for your reading pleasure.
I feel so proud to read about Salako in newspapers and also online, and I believe that these little steps will definitely lead to bigger ones.
To my Salako family and friends, let us all be proud of our culture and traditions, and let us learn, share and guide each other in enriching our knowledge.
