Caring for a Disabled Person

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I was living in Brickfields, each time I go out, I'd meet with at least a blind person. If you didn't know, the Malaysian Association for the Blind is located at Jalan Tun Sambanthan, near Brickfields. Therefore, many of the blinds live and work within the same area.

I feel sorry for the disabled, especially the blind, but I know the last thing they need is my sympathy. It always feels good whenever I helped them cross the road on their way to their destination, and I always thank God for my sight.

However, there are people who are also disabled, but not blind. Some people are disabled due to accidents, and some are born with disabilities. Other than helping them by giving donations, it's important for us to understand them and other kinds of help that they need.

Now is the time for us to know more about NMEDA. NMEDA or National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is an international non-profit organization that helps in educating consumers in buying safe driving and equipment for disabled people. All transportation and equipment for the disabled should be purchased from a NMEDA-qualified dealer, to ensure quality and safety.

No two people with a disability are exactly the same, and therefore, it is important to have the equipment or transportation, such as a wheelchair or a vehicle is customized to fit the disabled person's need. If you're a caretaker of a disabled person, a NMEDA qualified dealer could assist you in terms of training and so forth.

NMEDA also has its own Quality Assurance Program (QAP), which is a nationally-recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry. The program ensures that companies have systematic and documented approach to quality, so that they are able to satisfy customers consistently.

To check if there is a qualified NMEDA dealer near you, go to nmeda.org and find the dealers locator and key in your ZIP code. Kindly leave me a comment if you find one.
